這些和美食相關的諺語，不懂誤會就大囉！
酥皮派 pie
諺語：to have a finger in every pie 把手指頭放進每個派中。
意思：形容愛插手、愛管閒事的人，他的插手通常不太受歡迎。
例：My boss seems to have a finger in every pie because he doesn't trust us.
我們老闆似乎每件事都要插手，因為他不信任我們。
糖果 candy
諺語：eye candy 眼睛的糖果。
意思：形容人賞心悅目、養眼，看到他們就像眼睛吃了糖果。但也會被用在形容像是「花瓶」一般華而不實的人。
例：Some of my friends like to go to the beach for all the eye candy.
我有些朋友喜歡去海邊看養眼的辣妹帥哥。
魚 fish
諺語：to have bigger fish to fry 有更大的魚要煎。
意思：形容有更重要的事要辦。
例：A: Honey, why do you keep so many photos of hot girls?（寶貝，你怎麼會有這麼多美女的照片？）
B: Well, I need to run. I had a bigger fish to fry.（喔，我該出門了。我有更重要的事情要辦。）

馬鈴薯 potato
諺語：couch potato 沙發馬鈴薯。
意思：形容人是懶骨頭，一整天在沙發上不動看電視，像是長在沙發上的馬鈴薯都快發芽了！
例：You should go out for some sport! I don't want you to become a couch potato.
（你該出門運動了！我不希望你變成只會看電視的懶骨頭。）
沙拉 salad
諺語：salad days 沙拉日。
意思：指年少輕狂的日子，來自莎士比亞的劇本（記得不是像「Pizza day」宣傳大家吃 Pizza有優惠，而誤以為 salad days 是沙拉優惠日喔！）
例：
I met my wife in my salad days. I was a desperate rogue, but she never gave up on me.（我在年少輕狂時遇見我太太。當時我是個絕望的小混混，但她從沒放棄過我。）
My salad days, "when I was green in judgment, cold in blood, to say as I said then!" （「我年輕的時候，不懂事，沒有真情，所以說出那樣的話！」）——莎士比亞的《Anthony and Cleopatra》劇本
芥末 mustard
諺語：to cut the mustard 切芥末。
意思：合乎標準，常用在否定句裡。
例：Give me a bigger screwdriver. This one is too small; it can't cut the mustard.
給我大一點的螺絲起子。這個太小了；不合乎標準。

小黃瓜 cucumber
諺語：as cool as a cucumber 和小黃瓜一樣清涼。
意思：指非常冷靜（cool 除了當清涼，也可以當平靜的意思）
例：In spite of the accident, Kelly was as cool as a cucumber.
儘管意外發生，凱莉還是很冷靜。
豆子 beans
諺語：to spill the beans 灑豆子。
意思：指洩漏秘密。
例：It's a surprise party for Ann, so you'd better not spill the beans.
這是一個給安的驚喜派對，你可別說出去。
布丁 pudding
諺語：The proof is in the pudding. 證明就在布丁當中。
意思：只有實踐才知道是好是壞。
例句：The new product is said to have good quality, but the proof is in the pudding.
新產品據說品質很好，但是要實際用了才知道。

火雞 turkey
諺語1： to go cold turkey 去冷火雞。
意思：突然戒斷癮頭，說戒就戒。
例：I'm going to go cold turkey on fries.
我要馬上戒掉吃薯條的癮。
諺語2： to talk turkey （to somebody） 和某人說火雞
意思：對某人直言不諱。
例：We have business to discuss. Let's talk turkey.
